redit to Google GOOGL -0.82% for its thoroughness. Thanks to a lost shipment of Pixel 3XL phones, we know almost everything about it (including the bad stuff), and now Google has misplaced a Pixel 3 which reveals a far more exciting upgrade…
Posted on Reddit (via 9to5Google), we learn the Pixel 3 looks nothing like the polarising Pixel 3XL design and instead boasts a significantly larger, notch-less display and more encouraging battery life.
The headline change to the Pixel 3 is the jump to a 5.5-inch 2:1 aspect ratio display, which is 10% longer than the 5-inch panel in the Pixel 2. There’s also an increase in pixels from 1920 x 1080 to 2060 x 1080 to support the elongated panel. This still makes the Pixel 3 a far more manageable phone than the monstrous Pixel 3XL.
Battery life will also win over fans. Google is increasing the Pixel 3 battery capacity to 2915 mAh, up 215 mAh on the Pixel 2. A sharp contrast to the Pixel 3XL, which has a smaller battery than the Pixel 2XL (3430 Vs 3520 mAh) even though the display has increased dramatically (6.7 Vs 6-inches).
Furthermore, despite its size, the Reddit user reveals the Pixel 3 retains all the best features of the Pixel 3XL.
The two phones both have stereo front-facing speakers, wireless charging, a Snapdragon 845 chipset and 4GB of RAM. Moreover, the Pixel 3 has the same three cameras: a single shooter on the back and intriguing dual front-facing 8-megapixel cameras with f/1.8 and f/2.2 apertures respectively.
The front-facing duo are expected to include a wide-angle camera for better selfies, with the pair potentially used in conjunction for advanced 3D facial recognition – though this is yet to be confirmed.
Whether Google has done enough with either the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3XL to fend off Apple’s super-sized iPhone XS and Samsung’s trio of radical Galaxy S10 models remains to be seen. But right now, the smaller Pixel 3 looks a far more compelling handset than its big brother…Read More
