Interview is an important process which helps you make or break your career. It is all about making a good first impression and ensuring to the team of panellists that you are worthy and capable of deserving that particular post.

 A lot of things are observed during an interview process. It does not just depend on your qualifications or your marks. It comes down to basic body language, general knowledge, your values, beliefs and even your core personality traits.

If you are interviewing for a job, do not worry. The situation might be very tense, but you just have to keep your calm and ensure that you are honest and real in the interview process, however intimidating they panel turns out to be. Various tips for interview in Hindi, or English can be provided. Here are a few dos and don’ts that you must follow for an interview:

Dos:

  1. Ensure that you do a thorough research on the background of any company you are applying to. You must analyse if your belief system and the values which the company stand for match. If they don’t, then it can lead to conflicts for you in the future.
  2. Try to break the herd-mentality and be prepared with unique answers about yourself. Make sure that you stick to the basic truth but try to add a creative streak.
  3. Dress appropriately to an interview. Be well-dressed and make sure you are striking a balance from head to toe. Check your appearance constantly.
  4. Maintain a confident stride when you walk into the interview room. Shake hands firmly and sit only after instructed to do so. Your first impression of body language speaks volumes about your level of confidence.
  5. Try to remember the interviewer’s names and repeat if necessary. If they are more formal and look older, address them as sir or ma’am.
  6. Maintain eye contact throughout the interview.
  7. Be honest and don’t try to over-exaggerate your achievements.
  8. Have a good presence of mind.
  9. Confidently answer questions about your salary.

Don’t:

  1. Don’t narrate answers or by heart standard answers. It will look lik you are trying too hard.
  2. Do not be late for the interview. Try to arrive at least 15 minutes before your designated time.
  3. Don’t dress too casually. Don’t wear clothes that may be too revealing.
  4. Don’t come in to the interview room looking too stressed.
  5. Don’t try to address the interviewer’s name unless asked to.
  6. Don’t slouch, yawn and always maintain a confident posture.
  7. Don’t bring anybody else to the interview as it shows lack of esteem.
  8. Don’t try to bring in humour, unless the interviewer is indicating a semi casual form of interview.
  9. Don’t indulge too much into your personal details. Try to stick to the organisational values, and policies.
